I haven't looked at Mini PCs in a while, but apparently there's a new N150 generation (apparently just an N100 with slightly higher clocks and higher TDP). The exciting change on these is an internal PSU, as a wall wart hater I highly approve. Unfortunately I haven't found a dual 2.5GbE version, which kills these for me.

@paul quad 2.5GbE all the way ;) I have it on my N5105, are there any N100s that have it? Is replaceable DDR4 SODIMM RAM a feature on any of these?

@spitfire there's a bunch on Amazon, I think the quad ones generally come BYO RAM/SSD.

@spitfire I'm pretty sure that Intel has the whole chip family capped to 16GB.

@rotopenguin that is supposedly highly dependent on how many channels does the memory you use have. In this case the 5105 (theoretically limited to 16GB) works really well with 32GB (previously with 24GB). As far as I remember N100 system with replaceable SODIMMS were not as commonplace, which is why I was asking @paul if that's still the case with new chips. (1/2)

Even if they're not very powerful, putting a "lot" of RAM is useful for virtualization (in workloads that aren't really demanding). (2/2)

@paul Oh, this one looks interesting.

@paul thought this was a skinned Mac Mini and got excited.

@paul the big, sexy upgrade from N100 to N150 is that you now get a FOUR LANE nvme slot. The N95/100 systems only have two lanes, they are a little pokey with 800MB/s performance.

@rotopenguin but is that why we don’t have 2.5 nics?

@paul some of these can take USB-C power which simplifies things.
Also I love the N100 cpu, but ended up moving to 1215u/1315u mini PCs due to having Pcores at similar TDP

@paul I get so mad when I see a computer with a USB 2.0 port. why would you do that

@paul not exactly a mini PC but the new MINISFORUM 795S7 looks pretty sweet (Ryzen 9 7945HX + low profile RTX 4060) in a 7L case

@paul I actually just picked up one of these and it runs well. The lack of 2.5gb is annoying tho.

@paul
I assume you can install any OS you want?

@paul isn't that power connector for DC? With a rectifier before it? Edit: nope. Seems to literally be called "AC power plug"

@paul as my primary use for these mini pcs is events the internal PSU is a real benefit. The minute a dual 2.5GbE version is available to me easily I'll place an order.

@paul Not bad! You can also get used MFF Dell’s with an i5 or i7 for less on eBay though.

@paul aren’t ryzen the recommended processors for mini pc

@riazrahaman they both make compelling Mini PC APUs, really depends on your exact needs.

@paul I'm interested. was thinking of a new Mac mini but now given 'events' thinking of a mini for linux

@paul the uGreen USB 2.5G isn’t terrible, I’ve three, one for each of my N100s
